The sanctuary is a broadly known as "Savitri Peeth", "Devi Peeth", "Kalika Peeth" or "Aadi Peeth". As per Hindu folklore, Goddess Sati couldn't bear the defamation of her better half, Lord Shiva and submitted 'Sati' (immolation). Holding her consuming body, Lord Shiva began pacing the universe, watching this whole occurrence God Vishnu cut her body into 52 sections with his 'surdarshan chakra'. Because of Prachin life this, all the body portions of Goddess Sati fell every which way framing the different 'Shakti peeths'. It is accepted that the right lower leg of Goddess Sati fell where the Bhadrakali Temple is found. Rumors have spread far and wide suggesting that prior to leaving for the clash of Mahabharata, Lord Krishna alongside Pandavas adored here for their triumph and offered the ponies of their chariots. Similar custom of contributions is gone on till date, fitting ones costs. Likewise, the 'mundan' (head shaving) service of Lord Krishna and his sibling Balram is accepted to have been performed at this altar.
